All of the food is delicious, and to get anything better you have to go up to at least Culver's-level establishments and pay 2 to 4 dollars more. Friendly teenagers along with some more mature folks to keep an eye on things take your order and get the food prepared almost as fast as any actual chain fast-food place.
Great value, lovely little local place. The burgers are small, but they are so cheap you can easily get two for what you'd normally pay for one, and they taste great. The spiral fries are delicious. The staff was pleasant, and fulfilled my order accurately. Particularly, the trainee at the register was very pleasant. The bathrooms in the back weren't terrible, but could be cleaned more often. But yeah, a great local place to spend your trave dollars. My wife and I were very glad we got off the highway to try it.
A gourmet burger it is not!
Seen this place going through Merrill. Was going to stop at Hardee's across the street but liked the 60's vibe! Nice little place with daily specials. Got the Monday special of Double Cheeseburger with fries and a drink, added another Double Cheeseburger for a total $7! Burgers great, fries good, plenty full. The only thing I didn't care for is the bathrooms are located outside at the back of the building. That's the 4 stars part. Would stop again.
But... for the price, you can't beat Chip's. Quick, efficient service, and a burger, fries, and soft drink with one refill for like $6 are features of this quaint, old-fashioned burger joint.
Best place for cheap and great tasting food. Home town feel and been around forever. I stop every time I see it. Good ice cream selection.
Another reviewer mentioned Kopp's in the Milwaukee Area as a point of comparison. Kopp's burgers are bigger, but otherwise it's a fairly close comparison in style and substance.
If greasy flavorful burgers are your vice, then Chips is the place to be. Very historic looking. Great staff. About average prices. This little gem is in a town that one would think would be far too tiny to support it but somehow it works! A great stop for a fast pick me bite.
If you are camping at Council Grounds or otherwise cooling your heels in Merrill, a stop at Chip's followed by a stop at Briq's soft serve has to be on your list of activities!
